The former Chairman of Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) was recognized at a special award ceremony on 3 December 2023 during the 17th Annual GPCA Forum, which took place in Doha, Qatar last week

 

Doha, Qatar, 13 December 2023 – Eng. Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi, former General Manager (1992-2007) and Chairman (2011-2014), Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), and Founding Board Member, Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) (2006 – 2009), was honored with the 5th GPCA Legacy Award “Al-Rowad” (الرّواد) – The Honor of a Lifetime.

Eng. Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi was recognized at a special award ceremony on 3 December 2023 during the 17th Annual GPCA Forum which took place in Doha, Qatar last week. Eng. Al-Mohannadi was presented on stage with a special trophy by H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, in the presence of Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh, CEO, SABIC and Chairman, GPCA.

He was recognized for his lifetime achievements and outstanding contribution to developing and growing Qatar’s petrochemical industry and putting QAPCO on a path of internationally acclaimed success. Today QAPCO prides itself as one of the world’s largest and most successful producers of low-density polyethylene (LDPE).

After serving as General Manager of QAPCO from 1992 until 2007, Eng. Al-Mohannadi became the Managing Director and CEO of Ras Gas, a position in which he served until 2015. In this role, he led the development of USD 25 billion worth of gas projects, which enabled the growth of the chemical industry in Qatar. He also served as the Chairman of QAPCO (2011-2014) and Vice Chairman of Qatar Petroleum, now QatarEnergy.

Eng. Al-Mohannadi served on GPCA’s first Board of Directors from 2006 to 2009. He was among the eight downstream leaders from the Arabian Gulf, who came together in 2006 to establish GPCA. Since its inception 17 years ago, he envisioned that GPCA would encourage industry research, promote talent development and organize industrial conferences and seminars.

Eng. Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi is the latest chemical pioneer to be recognized with the GPCA Legacy Award alongside Mohammed Al-Mady, former Vice Chairman and CEO, SABIC, and Founding Chairman, GPCA (4th GPCA Legacy Award, 2022); H.R.H. Prince Faisal Bin Turki Bin Abdulaziz AI-Saud, Advisor to the Royal Court, Saudi Arabia and former Advisor to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Yousef Bin Omair, former Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, UAE, former Group CEO, ADNOC and former Chairman, Borouge (3rd GPCA Legacy Award, 2021); Abdulaziz Al Zamil (1941 – 2019), former Minister of Industry and Electricity, Saudi Arabia, and former Chairman, SABIC (2nd GPCA Legacy Award, 2019); Ghazi Al-Gosaibi (1940-2010), former Minister of Industry and Electricity, Saudi Arabia, and founding Chairman, SABIC; Yousef Al Shirawi (1927 – 2004), former Minister of Development and Industry, Bahrain; and Abdulbaqi Al-Nouri (1929 – 2010), former Chairman and MD, PIC, Kuwait (1st GPCA Legacy Award, 2017).

As part of the Award program a specially developed Hall of Fame at the 17th Annual GPCA Forum showcased the lifetime achievements of the eight Arabian Gulf Chemical Industry Pioneers, who were honored with the Award. The exhibit encompassed interactive media narrating their achievements with a mixture of video, audio and text, providing delegates with a fully immersive experience of the history of the regional industry and the personalities, who overcame the challenges of their time to establish a globally competitive regional industry.

At this year’s edition, we are proud to celebrate the legacy of one such visionary leader, who holds an instrumental place in the history of the petrochemical industry in Qatar.

Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi stands today as one of the Founding Founders of the Petrochemical Industry in the state of Qatar. His tenure in senior executive roles over the span of three decades at the helm of Qatar’s largest downstream and oil & gas enterprises saw him leave a lasting mark on the country’s successful industrial journey and shape the dreams of a generation, who saw a bright future for their Nation.”

Launched in 2017, the GPCA Legacy Award takes place on an annual basis and honors individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to foster and strengthen the chemical industry in one or more of the GCC states.
